Judges Comment: This atmospheric seascape is evocative and moving in its simplicity and beauty. There is a clear command of the medium and a wonderful sense of colour and tonal control. Certain passages are rendered with a beautiful lightness of touch.

Artist statement: 'Morning Storm' evolved from the vision of the frequent storms experienced during this winter. I love to paint the sea dominated by the sky, especially when the weather is extreme. The light was particularly appealing in this instance, highlighting a sudden squall which was reflected on the waves in a violent wash. My aim is always to involve the spectator in my work, hopefully impacting on their emotive response to what they are seeing.
