“Wind is stilled”, watercolour on paper - HIGHLY COMMENDED

Artist statement: Wind is stilled-NE Tasmania. The inspiration for ..Wind is stilled.. comes from numerous paint outs at Low Head Tasmania and the towns of Beauty Point and Hawley beach. Evenings spent at Low Head beach inspired this reflective piece. The reflections show up beautifully in this bay and the colour comes from the shrubs and reflections of sky and light sources such as the Lighthouse flashes in the water. This is rough watercolour on paper painted wet into wet. The horizontal landscape format was chosen to highlight the reflections and land shape to create a focused small work to show up the light and encourage the viewer to move closer and engage with the atmosphere of the painting. This painting will light up a small space out of sunlight.
