President’s Report June 2025
PRESIDENT’S REPORT – JUNE 2025
Denise Keele-Bedford
Presidents of any volunteer group are in a privileged position. As one of these people, I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of the volunteers who keep MSWPS afloat and progressing into the twenty-first century.
Wearing another hat recently, I attended an event during Volunteers Week that celebrated the work of volunteers across my local shire. Many groups—and, in our case, societies—would not survive without the dedication of volunteers who manage administration and plan engaging, meaningful events for members.
The 2025 calendar of events for MSWPS offers a broad spectrum of outings and gatherings at Ola Cohn House. Members can stay informed through our website, The Bulletin, and regular Mailchimp notifications.
Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea sparked a wave of volunteer efforts, using yellow and blue to raise funds for cancer research. Locally, my exercise instructor was thrilled to have raised over $3,000 for the Cancer Council. This is volunteer dedication in action.
Congratulations to all our members, who appear to have had a bumper month of successes! I’ve been delighted to see so many social media posts featuring your art sales, exhibitions, commissions, workshops, publications, and competition selections.
The Society exists to support and celebrate your achievements. I encourage you to use the website as a platform to share your news with the world. Through your membership portal, you can create a post or add an event—take a few minutes to try it out.
When using Instagram, don’t forget to tag @mswpsmembers. Lucy will then share your post to the Society’s Instagram account.
Leigh Rees, our Bulletin editor, is also keen to receive your notices. You can send them via the member portal or directly to her at: MSWPSbulletinnews@gmail.com.
DEADLINE FOR NEXT ISSUE: JUNE 15
I look forward to seeing members on the Bendigo Bus Trip on Wednesday, June 11, and at the Winter Solstice Celebration on Thursday, July 3.
A limited number of places are available for a tour of the Australian Tapestry Workshop in South Melbourne on Friday, July 25. Please send your expression of interest to: info@mswps.co.au
In recognition of Reconciliation Week and our Indigenous heritage:
The theme for National Reconciliation Week (NRW) 2025, Bridging Now to Next, reflects the ongoing connection between past, present, and future.
It calls on all Australians to move forward together, guided by the lessons of the past as we build a more unified future.
To all our June-born members—Happy Birthday!
