May Day Paintout

On a lovely May Day, with sun glorious and dripping off foliage everywhere MSWPS members enjoyed a plein air session at Ola Cohn House.

The park across the road was suggested for subject matter, however, all members decided that the courtyard and garden at The House was just the ambience they wanted.

The society’s newest member Michelle Liu joined in for her first event and was very pleased to meet with all who attended. We brought a plate to share and as usual had an abundance of food for all.

At the beginning of April, I received an email from a young woman undertaking the Master of Arts program at Melbourne University. She enquired regarding meeting artists to interview for a New Media Storytelling project titled, Exploring the Female Artist’s Dilemma.

After several emails and receiving a sheet of questions I suggested we meet at Ola Cohn House on May 1 and as current president would represent the society for an interview. What was meant to be a twenty-minute session extended to an hour. They then asked if other members would like to be interviewed and Tessa Wallis was happy to accommodate their request.

We will receive a copy once their project is completed.

The three young ladies were invited to join us for lunch and various members were happy to be photographed for the project.

Arriving on site, I was very pleased to see that maintenance had been undertaken by Facilities Management. A list had been sent of what would be done and it was carried out.

It is lovely to see Ola Cohn’s sculpture cleared of climbing vines, downpipe repaired, letterbox moved, newspaper slot back in place and gate holder reattached.

These are small steps towards our society keeping on top of Ola Cohn House maintenance and presentation.
