'Italian Memories', Acrylic on Board - HIGHLY COMMENDED

Artist statement: These were painted immediately after my recent return from Sicily and Naples. One of my reasons I joined the Sicily trip was to paint the theatre at Taomina with its iconic view to Mount Etma, as it happens it received a heavy snow fall overnight making a strong horizontal line across the slopes. I especially wanted to visit the ancient sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum to refresh my memory of the colours and textures of the interiors and frescoes of these ancient towns. The sophistication and beauty found in these sites links us with our humanity, its vanities and love of luxury.
