President’s Report June 2026

Denise Keele-bedford

As I write this, I find myself preparing and lighting the evening fire at about 4 pm. The cold is creeping in, and dusk descends quickly. The changing seasons in our region certainly expose us to a wide spectrum of weather.

The garden is loving all the rain, and having to keep a towel by the back door for muddy paws gives my dog a good reason for extra cuddles.

I hope you were able to enjoy the wonderful Blue Moon on the last weekend in May. Fortunately, the sky was clear enough to appreciate its moodiness and brilliant light. It was quite beautiful.

What a wonderful time to huddle down in a warm studio and get creative. A cup of hot chocolate and your favourite art materials should make for a productive and enjoyable day.

The first OCH Open Morning will be hosted by Vicki Birt on Thursday, 18 June, from 10.00am. Bring along some painting and/or drawing materials and use the house as your subject matter. The Research and Lending Libraries will be open for your enjoyment. The heaters will be on, and tea and coffee will be provided.

The MSWPS Winter Lunch will be held on Thursday, 2 July, at 12:30. Rather than members bringing a plate to share, the Society will provide lunch for everyone. If you have any specific dietary requirements, please include them when registering for the event.

This is a wonderful opportunity to meet with fellow artists, welcome new members, and discuss all that is happening in your creative worlds.

As we move toward the Annual Exhibition in October, two Zoom sessions will be offered to all members. The first will focus on updating your profile, particularly for those who currently have a blank page on the website. Remember, the MSWPS website is an important promotional tool for your art practice.

The second Zoom session will guide members through the entry process for the Annual Exhibition. Opportunities to ask questions will be available during both sessions.

Notification of dates and times will be sent via email.

Studio Glimpses is an initiative coordinated by Beatrice Magalotti. Be sure to check the information on the website and send her relevant images for Instagram.

MSWPS Committee are calling for members who would like to conduct workshops, give demonstrations of their art practices or present relevant talks, to contact us with your proposals. Send your EOI to info@mswps.com.au

The Affordable Art Fair is being coordinated by Katya Cosgrove, who is delighted that the application was successful. Four MSWPS members will represent the Society at the fair in August.

A group of members recently met in Sale and enjoyed each other's company over dinner, as well as participating in two activities at the gallery. Many thanks to the Director, Simon Gregg and volunteer Marilyn for their hospitality. Be sure to read the latest news post on the website.

Happy birthday to all those special people celebrating in June.
